    Summary

Florida's First Coast Relief Fund was founded in 2016 by Northeast Florida's largest nonprofit funders to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew. Relief Fund partners re-activated the Relief Fund in 2017 for Hurricane Irma relief. Relief Fund partners include  United Way of Northeast Florida, United Way of St. Johns County, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida and the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville.

The above philanthropic organizations have joined together to establish Florida's First Coast Relief Fund to assist nonprofit organizations helping those in Northeast Florida affected by Hurricane Irma. Grants will be limited to assisting with needs not covered by insurance, FEMA or other state or federal programs or to fill the gap while other long-term assistance is being put into place.

The initial focus of this fund is designed to address Immediate Unmet Needs such as basic health and safety needs that require immediate financial assistance. The fund is only accepting applications for immediate unmet needs at this time. Future grants will support intermediate and long-term needs as identified and funding is available. Examples (not a comprehensive list) of immediate unmet needs nonprofit organizations are working to address may include items, such as:
    • Food and food supplies
    • Prescription and medical supplies
    • Basic financial assistance (examples: utility/ rent or destroyed household items)

    Additional Information

The distribution of funds will be overseen initially by a committee comprised of representatives of the City of Jacksonville, United Way of Northeast Florida, United Way of St. Johns County, The Community Foundation for Northeast Florida, the Jessie Ball duPont Fund, the Jewish Federation of Jacksonville, The Jaguar Foundation, and Mayo Clinic and advised by emergency relief organizations with expertise in disaster recovery. Grants will be awarded only to charitable/nonprofit organizations and not to individuals.

In addition, nonprofit agencies whose primary mission is to provide safety net services, can apply for a grant to assist in immediate repairs to their facility that were a result of damage sustained during Hurricane Irma. The Fund will consider requests for Facility Refurbishment that are needed to resume services at pre-hurricane levels and may be limited to funding temporary solutions while longer term plans are made to address larger projects.
