Summary
The Volunteer Fire Assistance Grant Program provides financial and technical assistance to Missouri fire departments in cities or communities with a population under 10,000. The primary objectives of the program are saving lives and protecting property in rural areas.
Rural fire departments must use the grant money for fire protection and comply with existing state and county rural fire protection plans. Examples of funded projects include:
Establishing a fire department or reorganizing an inactive fire department;
Converting federal excess property vehicles to fire control rigs;
Communications - warning systems (not sirens on buildings), pagers, radios (must be compatible with the counties' 911 system);
Personal safety equipment (structural and wildland);
Fire equipment (hose, nozzles, etc.); and
Rural water storage systems

Grants will not be approved for medical, rescue, or HAZMAT equipment; capital construction projects; or vehicle purchases.

Eligibility Details
Eligible applicants are Missouri fire departments serving a rural area or a rural community with a population of 10,000 or less.
Deadline Details
Applications are to be submitted by October 31, annually.
Award Details
Individual awards may be up to $3,000. Cost sharing/matching of 50% the total project cost is required.
